How to Choose the Right Romper Size for Your Baby

One of the most common challenges new parents face? Figuring out what size to buy for a baby who seems to grow out of clothes overnight. Rompers are a baby wardrobe staple — but sizing can vary, and getting it right makes life much easier. Here's how to choose the right romper size with confidence.

Why Baby Sizing Can Be Confusing

Baby clothing sizes are usually listed by age (e.g., 0–3 months, 3–6 months), but babies grow at very different rates. A two-month-old might comfortably wear a 3–6 month size, while another might still fit a newborn size at the same age. That's why it's important to go by your baby's current weight and height rather than age alone.

Our Size Guide

We've put together a detailed Size Guide that maps out the measurements for each size in our range. Before you shop, grab a tape measure and note your baby's:

  • Height (crown to heel)
  • Weight
  • Chest circumference (helpful for snug-fitting styles)

Then cross-reference with the guide — it takes the guesswork out of shopping.

Should You Size Up?

For gifting, or if you're buying ahead of time, it's generally a good idea to size up by one. Babies grow quickly and you'll get more wear out of a slightly larger size. For zip rompers in particular, a little extra room in the body is comfortable and allows for a nappy without pulling.

The exception: if you want the romper to fit perfectly for photos or a special occasion, go true to size based on current measurements.

Romper Fit Tips

  • Nappy allowance: Our rompers are designed with nappy room built in — no need to size up just for nappies.
  • Zip rompers: Check that the zip runs smoothly from neck to crotch and isn't straining at the snaps. The zip should close without bunching.
  • Frill styles: The frill sits at the leg hem, so double-check thigh measurements for a comfortable fit.
  • Arm and leg length: Rompers can run long or short in the limbs — use your baby's height as your primary guide.

Shop by Style

We offer two romper styles to suit different tastes:

  • Zip Rompers (No Frill) — clean and minimalist, perfect for everyday wear and easy nappy changes, day or night.
  • Frill Zip Rompers — a feminine touch with a frill hem, ideal for special occasions or simply because they're adorable.

Both styles are made from soft, breathable fabrics designed to be gentle on newborn and infant skin.
